Nessebar:

Perched on a rocky peninsula along the Black Sea coast, Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe’s oldest towns, with over 3,000 years of history. Known as the “Pearl of the Black Sea,” this charming destination blends ancient ruins with cobbled streets, wooden houses from the 19th century, and over 40 historic churches.

Wander through layers of Thracian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine history, enjoy fresh seafood by the harbor, and soak in the town’s timeless beauty. Nessebar is the perfect mix of culture, sea, and tradition.

Saint Anastasia Island:

Just 6.5 kilometers off the coast of Burgas, nestled in the tranquil waters of the Black Sea, lies Saint Anastasia Island – a small but captivating destination steeped in history, legends, and natural charm. This volcanic rock island, the only inhabited one along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and coastal beauty.

Originally home to a medieval monastery, Saint Anastasia Island has long been a site of spiritual refuge and political intrigue. The monastery, which still stands today, was converted into a prison in the 1920s and later became a symbol of resistance when political prisoners famously escaped from it. Today, it houses a museum, preserving its layered history with exhibits of religious artifacts, photographs, and relics from its turbulent past.

The island also features a restaurant serving freshly caught seafood and traditional Bulgarian dishes, a small guesthouse for overnight stays, and a lighthouse offering panoramic views of the sea. Visitors can explore walking paths lined with wild herbs, admire unique volcanic rock formations, and relax in peaceful, uncrowded surroundings.

Accessible by regular boat service from the Burgas Sea Station, Saint Anastasia Island is a perfect half-day or full-day escape – ideal for history lovers, nature seekers, and anyone looking to experience a quieter, more mysterious side of the Black Sea. More information is available here.
